Conversational English

Module co-ordinator: John Alvis

The objective of this module is to enable students to speak English with confidence in a wide variety of cultural situations and thereby be equipped for global mission.

The English Language part of the Kingfisher Course will be taught by developing four basic skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. It is expected that the majority of missionary students will be reasonably confident in the first three basic skills, and that special attention will need to be paid to speaking. This is particularly true of people from the Far East.

In this respect, much is to be gained from multilingual classes, since they create a real, not artificial, need to speak the one language they have in common - English. The ideal class size is between 10 and 16. More than 16 students will mean a second class. Conversation classes will, where possible be in smaller groups (5-8).
